Read to buy a Splinterlands Spellbook? This is the first step in your Splinterlands journey and it’s sort of akin to buying the game. Until you buy a Spellbook, you’re unable to tackle most of the basics in Splinterland, like earning rewards, advancing leagues, even customizing your username.
Thankfully, Splinterlands has provided a variety of ways to get your hands on a Spellbook. But if you’re not a cryptocurrency veteran, this may prove a bit daunting. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
Before You Begin
This guide assumes that you’ve already created an account at Splinterlands and set it up.
If you haven’t already done so, here are the steps.
How to Create a Splinterlands Account
Visit Splinterlands and click Play Now.
A window will open and you’ll click on Create Account on the left.
Then create that account. You can use my referral code — qwidjib0 — in case there are any active referral promos.
Then you can link up a wallet (like Metamask) or create a password. You’ll be able to link up wallets later in the experience, including quite a few more than the ones mentioned during signup. So for now, you’ll probably want to just create a password.
You’ll now enter a password and confirm your email. Congratulations, you’re in! Welcome to Splinterlands.
Buy a Splinterlands Spellbook
Once your account is created, you should be greeted by a screen that looks like the one below. Click on Buy Spellbook.
This presently takes you to the Shop, also accessible using the coins icon on the top menu. If you’re presented with a confusing Special offer, try clicking the Packs tab. You’re looking for this block on the Summoner’s Spellbook:
The Learn More link describes the Summoner’s Spellbook thusly:
“By upgrading your account, you will now be able to buy, trade, own, rent, earn, and manage your digital assets within the game. In other words, it empowers ANYONE to become a professional gamer. You may now profit from your time playing Splinterlands! In addition to unlocking a wide range of earning opportunities, you will also gain access to your Hive wallet keys in the Settings menu. Currently, there is no active Promo Code; just the Referral Code mentioned earlier, which sometimes carries its own benefits, but is different. So ignore that. Free spellbooks aren’t a thing; they’re an important device to deincentivize multiple accounts.

If You Already Have Crypto
It’s possible that you already have Bitcoin or a related altcoin sitting in a wallet somewhere, and if so, just follow the steps, which go:
- Select currency and click Buy.
- Send the prescribed amount to the wallet address given (be sure to account for transaction fees).
- Click on Payment Sent.
You’ll be given a hash to track your transaction and a notice that this may take up to 24 hours. In my experience, it shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. If you’re feeling antsy, you can track your transaction on the Hive Block Explorer or jump on the Splinterlands Discord for help.
If You Don’t Already Have Crypto
If you’d like to buy your Summoner’s Spellbook using crytpo but don’t yet have any, it’s ideal to fund your account using the game’s native currency: Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). Here’s how to buy DEC and deposit it on the platform by leveraging Binance.
After You Buy Your Spellbook
How to Set Up Your Splinterlands Wallet
Before you buy a Spellbook, your account is worth $0.
But as soon as you do, that will change. So take a moment to make sure that you have access to your own wallet and funds. On the right drop-down menu, you should now see a link that says Request Wallet Keys.
Do that and you should receive an email with a link to retrieve your keys within the hour.
Keep these keys safe and don’t give them out to anybody for any reason.
How to Manage Your Splinterlands Wallet
You can withdraw your funds, cards, packs, and basically any other assets from the Splinterlands platform at anytime. You’ll find aftermarkets for them sites like Tribaldex and AtomicHub.
The recommended tool for all of this is the Hive Keychain Extension that’s available in the Google Chrome Web Store. Like all Google Chrome extensions, it also works in Brave Browser.
Once set up, you’ll be able to manage access to most every Hive blockchain project with a simple click, including the Splinterlands platform.
